For the first time in Rukum East, a three-day mental health camp was organised last week in Kakri Health Post of Bhume Rural Municipality. “We are very happy with the response and participation of the community the health camp received. Over 450 people benefitted from the camp which was more than what we expected,” says UMN’s Rukum East office Team Leader, Shiva Prasad Adhikari.
Eighty percent of the people were identified with mental illness and among them 75% were women. The major identified cases were psychosis, anxiety, depression, epilepsy, intellectual disability, and conversion disorder. Referrals for specialised treatment, psycho-social counselling and medicines were provided to the patients as per the diagnosis and prescriptions.
This mental health camp was orgainised by UMN’s Rukum East cluster together with its partner N-PAF and in collaboration with the local government of the three rural municipalities.
Well done Rukum East Cluster Team! Mental health matters, keep up the good work.
