Thrilled to grow off-seasonal vegetables

In the village of Daura, Mugu, the Sotung Community Group, consisting of 22 women, faced challenges with traditional seasonal seeds, leading to no yield. Due to steep land, cold temperatures, and lack of knowledge, they were not producing green vegetables and instead resorted to buying it from the local market. With the help of UMN’s local partner KCDC these bunch of women received training and a plastic tunnel for winter vegetable farming. The local government’s contribution by supplying vegetable seeds further helped their attempt. Now, they've successfully grown vegetables even during winter season, selling surplus produce to a residential school, generating income, and gaining skills in agriculture.

The group also engages in discussions on women's and child rights, domestic violence, parenting and more. It is wonderful to see their transformation which showcases a collaborative effort towards community upliftment.
